Cavill Lane was transformed into a bustling hub of colour, culture, and celebration as families and visitors welcomed the Lunar New Year in spectacular style.
The heart of Surfers Paradise came alive with the rhythmic beating of drums and the swirl of vibrant costumes as Chinese lion and dragon dancers performed traditional routines to mark the beginning of the Year of the Snake.
The festivities delighted a diverse crowd of locals and tourists, many of whom gathered in the laneway to soak up the energy and excitement. Children squealed with joy as the large, brightly coloured lion and dragon costumes weaved through the crowds, dancing playfully and stopping to pose for photos with wide-eyed spectators.
The performances, which are believed to bring good luck and drive away negative spirits, featured skilful choreography accompanied by booming drums and crashing cymbals. The sound reverberated through the laneway, creating an electric atmosphere that echoed the spirit of renewal and hope that the new year brings.
Restaurants and eateries lining Cavill Lane joined in the celebration, with many offering themed menus, red lantern decorations and lucky red envelopes for guests. The festive energy drew people into the dining precinct, where sizzling aromas of dumplings, noodles and other Lunar New Year delicacies wafted through the air.
"We love celebrating Chinese New Year here every year," said one local family. "It’s such a joyful way to introduce our kids to different cultures and traditions — and they absolutely love the dragons!"
